Space Quest II

Space Quest II: Chapter II - Vohaul's Revenge , mostly abbreviated to Space Quest II , is a graphic adventure published in 1987 by Sierra On-Line . It is the second part of the successful Space Quest series around the space janitor Roger Wilco and the sequel to Space Quest: Chapter I - The Sarien Encounter . The developer team made up of Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, the "Two Guys of Andromeda", who was responsible for the first part, used Sierra's AGI game engine again .

action

A comic book is included in the instructions to tell the player the events following Space Quest I after Roger Wilco became the hero of Xenon. The player also learns that the villain Sludge Vohaul was behind the original Sariener attack on the Arcada spaceship and how he went mad.

Regardless of his new status as a hero, Roger will be transferred to Xenon's Space Station 4 and promoted to the supervisor of all caretakers, despite being the only caretaker. Everything is calm until he is kidnapped by Sludge Vohaul.

Roger is to be taken to Labion labor camp for punishment for thwarting Sludge's original plan. But the prison ship crashes in the nearby jungle on the planet. Roger manages to escape his pursuers and the dangers of the Labion jungle. Soon after, he reached Sludge's asteroid starbase. Again, it is up to Roger alone to let Vohaul's devious plan fail: to wipe out all life on Xenon by sending millions of sales reps onto the planet!

In the end, before Vohaul's asteroid is blown up and the planet is saved, Roger is put into cryostasis and placed in a capsule in space . This begins the sequel Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon .

reception

Space Quest II ranks 4th among Sierra's bestsellers. Therefore it can be assumed that Space Quest II has been sold over 100,000 times. According to Sierra On-Line, all games in the Space Quest series had sold over 1.2 million copies by the end of March 1996.

Space Quest II VGA Remake

After a picture from the original game was shown on the Infamous Adventures website in early 2007 without further explanation, a remake was announced in April 2007 by fans and hobby developers. That with the open source engine Adventure Game Studio -developed game appeared as Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge in December 2011 for Windows and in February 2012 for Mac OS X . As the news site Shacknews reported, the project did not receive any feedback from the then rights holder Activision , who had re-released the entire original series in bundles of three parts about a year earlier, but praise from one of the two developers of the original:

"I'm impressed you're all putting so much effort into it through your passion for adventure games. It's great to know that there're people like you guys out there. You and your team have my blessing. "
