The director and producer of the film, Philip M. Dauber (* 1942), is a doctor of physics who worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory . The production of the film was supported by the Lawrence Hall of Science at Berkeley and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and TRW Corporation .
Spaceborne premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival in October 1977 .
