Jan Olav Bjørn Gjermundshaug (born October 24, 1987 ) is a Norwegian biathlete .

Jan Olav Gjermundshaug belongs to the Alvdal IL association and starts for the professional team Aker Solutions . He competed in his first international races in 2005 in Geilo as part of the Biathlon European Cup (later IBU Cup) for Juniors and was fifth and 15th in two sprints. Further appearances only followed at the season highlight, the 2008 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding , where Gjermundshaug 38th in sprint and 34th in pursuit. The following season , the Norwegian competed in the men's IBU Cup races for the first time in Altenberg and immediately won first points as 35th in the individual and 40th in the sprint. After four races, in which he always won points, at two competition stations, the international service time ended. In the 2009/10 season he did not come to any international appearances. The best result was a ninth place at the Norwegian Summer Biathlon Championships in Sirdal in the sprint race. 2010/11 season Gjermundshaug was able to fight for a place in the IBU Cup team of Norway, but missed an acceptable place with a 62nd place in the first sprint of the season in Beitostølen . So he came back later in the season in Nové Město na Moravě used, but again missed the points. Gjermundshaug's international breakthrough followed a week later. In the Altenberg sprint, he achieved a podium finish for the first time as third-placed behind Thomas Frei and Wiktor Wassiljew . He could not confirm this placement a day later in the pursuit race based on the sprint. If he still benefited from an error-free shooting performance in the sprint, he fell back to 20th place in the pursuit due to seven errors.
