Wiktor Sergejewitsch Wassiljew ( Russian Виктор Сергеевич Васильев , scientific transliteration Viktor Sergeevič Vasil'ev ; born May 30, 1987 in Ustinow ) is a Russian biathlete .

Viktor Vasilyev took part in his first junior world championships in biathlon in 2005 in Kontiolahti and won the title in individual. Sprint and pursuit, however, did not produce any noteworthy results. In 2006 the young Russian took part in the Junior European Championships in Langdorf . In the individual he won the bronze medal there, with the relay he won the title. The following year Vasilyev started both at the Junior World Championships in Martell read as well as at the Junior European Championships in Bansko . While he only achieved a top ten result in the pursuit of tenth place at the World Championships and did very poorly with the relay by Russian standards, he won relay gold again at the European Championships. In addition, he was runner - up in the individual behind the Bulgarian Krassimir Anew and ninth in the sprint. Also in 2008 he started at both major events. At the European Championships in Nové Město na Moravě Vasilyev won the title with the relay for the third time in a row, but for the first time missed a medal in one of the individual races. The best result was fourth place in the sprint. For the first time, things went better at the Junior World Championship. At the world title competitions in Ruhpolding , he also won gold with the relay in Bavaria and, after finishing fourth in the sprint, bronze in the pursuit race. In addition, there was ninth place in the individual. At the Summer Junior World Championships in 2007 in Otepää the Russian missed a medal in fourth place, in 2008 in Haute-Maurienne he won gold in the relay and was ninth in sprint and pursuit.

Vasilyev competed in his first men's competition at the 2008 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa , where he was able to improve steadily from race to race. The Russian finished 18th in the sprint, and in the pursuit race he was able to advance to eighth place. In the individual, he finally won the title and was also third with the Russian relay. Vasilyev contested his first biathlon World Cup race at the 2008/09 season finale . In the sprint he was 60th and thus just qualified for the pursuit race, in which he improved to 47th place. Viktor Wassiljew scored his first points in the World Cup as 25th in the sprint in Östersund at the beginning of the 2009/2010 Biathlon World Cup . He was used in the World Cup throughout the season and made it into the points twelve times (including one relay), his best result was thirteenth place in the sprint at the last World Cup station in Khanty-Mansiysk .
