The Sparkasse Elbe-Elster is a public-law savings bank based in Finsterwalde in southern Brandenburg . It is registered at the Cottbus District Court under the registration number HRA no. 1172. It is a member of the East German Savings Banks Association and through this the German Savings Banks and Giro Association. The Sparkasse Elbe-Elster is an institution under public law .
history
The Sparkasse Elbe-Elster was created on January 1, 1995 from the merger of the formerly independent Kreissparkassen in Bad Liebenwerda (founded in 1856), Finsterwalde (founded in 1885) and Herzberg (Elster) (founded in 1837).
On Tuesday, August 1st, 1837, the Kreissparkasse opened its doors in Herzberg. The first Sparkasse employees started their business in the house of the businessman Carl Gottlieb Caspar at Kirchstrasse 2 in Herzberg an der Elster. Carl Gottlieb Caspar looked after the first customers as a cashier. He issued the savings bank book with the number 1 for around 12 talers for Miss Marie Sommer. The financial institute of the Schweinitzer Kreis was initially always open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. August 1, 1837 is still considered the historic founding date of Sparkasse Elbe-Elster.

Sparkasse Elbe-Elster is a public law institution with legal capacity under the law of the Federal Republic of Germany and which serves the common good and operates the business provided for in the statutory ordinance enacted in accordance with Section 32 (1) No. 1 of the Brandenburg Savings Bank Act (BbgSpG). The legal basis is the Brandenburg Savings Bank Act, the Savings Bank Ordinance of the State of Brandenburg and the statutes issued by the Sparkasse's administrative board . According to the Savings Bank Act, the bodies of the Sparkasse are the administrative board and the executive board. The Board of Directors has 15 members. It consists of the chairman (Section 10 BbgSpkG), 9 other members (Section 11 (1) BbgSpkG) and 5 employees of the Sparkasse (Section 11 (2) BbgSpkG). The board consists of 2 members. The Elbe-Elster district is responsible for the Sparkasse Elbe-Elster .
