The Sparkasse Wolgast is a bank building in the town of Wolgast in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district .

history

It was built in 1931/32 according to a design by the architect Hans Poelzig as a branch of the Sparkasse of the Greifswald district at Rathausplatz No. 2. With the clear design language of the New Objectivity , Poelzig created a counterpoint to the baroque architecture that characterizes the cityscape on the historic market square.

The building is one of the last in Poelzig. He not only created the plans for the construction of the building, but was also responsible for the interior design. He created individual pieces of furniture for furnishing.

In the GDR there was a branch of the State Bank of the GDR in the building . A Deutsche Bank branch has been housed in the building since 1990 .
