Spartocids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spartocids ( ancient Greek Σπαρτοκίδαι ) were a dynasty of kings of the Bosporan Empire who lived from 438–110 BC. Ruled.

history

The origin of the dynasty is uncertain: they are described as Thracians , Scythians , Anapa - Mayots or Greeks . They formed their state on the Pantikapaion and occupied the nearby cities of Feodosia , Anapa and Phanagoria and expanded their sphere of influence into the Scythian areas around the Don River . In the fourth and fifth centuries BC, the Spartocids had trade links with Athens, from where they bought wheat, leather, slaves, and dried fish. Many Spartocids were given honorary citizenship of Athens.
