The storage silo south is a converted to residential and commercial purposes landmarked former storage in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located at Bleckenburgstraße 11a in the Buckau district of Magdeburg , not far from the left bank of the Elbe .

Architecture and history

The 27 meter high building, visible from afar, was built in 1911/1912 as a granary . It was built as a silo , bag or bulk material storage in reinforced concrete construction and is therefore an early example of this construction method in Magdeburg. The cuboid, 17994 m³ building is covered by flat hip roofs . The structure was made by monumental pilaster strips .

The use as a storage facility ended in 1993. In 1997/1998 the architect Bernd Feeken carried out a renovation funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the city of Magdeburg. In order to meet the new purpose as a residential and commercial building, more than 120 window openings were added to the originally windowless building, which influenced the previous facade structure. The hopper storage inside the building was removed, and false ceilings, a stairwell and an elevator system were installed. An entrance hall and commercial space of 440 m² were created on the ground floor of the house. The original ceiling funnels located there, as well as twelve reinforced concrete supports, were retained for design reasons. The individual floors have an area of ​​4820 m² each, on which 35 apartments of different sizes are arranged.

In the local register of monuments , the warehouse is listed as a monument under registration number 094 71485 .
