Spices

Spices (as Middle High German  specerīe from Italian Spezierie , Goods grocery ', of Spezieria , Spice Store' from the Latin species , kind ',' shape ', late Latin and spice,' borrowed - see also English spice , seasoning ') is from the 14th century Common name for spices (then mostly in the plural spices). Also commonly used in delicatessen products, occasionally in spice shops and pharmacies .

Species is also an outdated expression for food in general, in Switzerland also for general goods (and accordingly there, spices for grocery or general stores). The spice dealer was also called Würzkrämer ( spice grocer ).
