Play carpet
The so-called play carpet is a picture knitting factory made in Heidelberg at the beginning of the 15th century , which has been in the possession of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg since 1857 . The large-format masterpiece of late medieval textile art , in which linen , wool and gold-plated silver threads were used, testifies to the splendid design of earlier representative rooms . It deals with erotic motifs of the love poetry .
A coat of arms on the upper right edge suggests that the tapestry was probably made by order of the citizen Hans Diel from Speyer. Because of its sensitivity, it remained under lock and key for over 30 years. After an extensive restoration , it has been on view again since May 2008.
