history

Goethite found in the
Rosengarten mine

The mine was created on July 23, 1870 through a consolidation with several small pits, the main mine being in the area of the “Rosengarten” and “Rosenzweig” pits in Niederschelden. The “Charlotten Erbstollen” (“ Erbstollenrechtigkeit ”), which was laid out on August 15, 1860, served as the mine’s heritage gallery. On August 25, 1908, the mine consolidated again. In 1909 there were 226 employees working in the group. On November 7, 1923, the mine was closed. Up until the closure, around 400,000 t of iron ore had been mined in the “Beerberg” ore field.

Civil engineering

The two main shafts of the mine were in the area of the above-mentioned pits. In 1869 a 4.71 × 2.38 m large and 185 m deep blind shaft was built in "Rosengarten". From 1914 ore was mined with the help of electricity on the 5 floors. In 1900 a day shaft was sunk in "Rosenzweig". This had the dimensions 5.4 × 2 m. The total depth of the pit was 675 m, over which 13 excavation levels were distributed.

Consolidations

Main pits

  • " Rosengarten " in the Niederschelderhütte. The result of a consolidation on October 30, 1858. In 1863, 7,502 t of iron ore were extracted and thus ranked ninth in the extraction statistics. Civil engineering began in 1871. In 1869 a blind shaft measuring 4.71 × 2.38 m was started. It had a depth of 185 m, on which 5 levels were distributed. From 1914 electrical dismantling took place.
  • Rosenzweig ” in Niederschelderhütte, consolidation on September 3, 1849. Civil engineering was carried out here from 1874 onwards. The shaft was 4.78 × 1.5 m in size; in 1900 a day shaft measuring 5.4 × 2.0 m was created.
