Seemingly artistically "stacked" rocks with a quiver tree in the background

The playground of the giant ( afrikaans Speelplek the van reuse , English Giants' Playground ) is a bizarre Felslandschaft at Keetmanshoop , in the vicinity of the quiver tree forest , in the south of Namibia . The piled up dolerite rocks look as if they were the work of giants, but they were created by weathering blocks , an angular variant of wool sack weathering . The rock blocks consist of 170 million year old basalt of volcanic origin, which was often coated with desert varnish and polished by sand grinding.

The vertical white stripes on the rocks are urine traces of living there hyrax .

Touristic

The giant playground, like the quiver tree forest, belongs to the Gariganus farm and can be visited together with it. A 45-minute marked circular route leads through the five square kilometer area.
