Spindle
The spindle was an English thread measure. The size varied depending on the type of yarn and country.
The reel circumference or the length of the thread ( thread ) was set at 1.5 yards or 54 inches . The Hank or Strehn had 7 leas (containers) with 80 threads (reel threads) each. Leas was 120 yards, or after the strut, the hank, 840 yards.

- 1 Hank / Strehn = 3600 yards = 3291.84 meters
- 1 Irish spindle (linen yarn, hemp yarn) = 4 hank = 14400 yards = 13167.36 meters
- 1 hank = 3600 yards = 3291.84 meters
- 1 bulkhead . Spindle (wool yarn) = 38 Lea = 11400 Yard = 10424.16 meters
- 1 lea = 300 yards = 274.32 meters
