Spokane Falls is the name of waterfalls and dams on the Spokane River , in the city of Spokane in the State of Washington are. The city of Spokane was originally also called "Spokane Falls".

history

The Indian name for the Spokane Falls was "Stluputqu", which means "swift water". A large Spokane village once stood by the falls .

features

The cases consist of an upper case and a lower case. The Upper Falls are also Lageort of Upper Falls Dam , a 1920-built tee structure which directs the water back from a southern arm of Spokane River via a channel therein. The Upper Falls Power Plant uses a Francis turbine with an output of 10 MW . A further dam directs the water to the east in the northern arm. There is a second tipping structure at the Lower Falls , the Monroe Street Dam . Completed in 1890, it was the first dam built on the Spokane River and is now the longest-running hydroelectric power plant in Washington. Its Kaplan turbine has an output of 14.82 MW.
