history

The association was founded on February 27, 1932, by Portuguese settlers in what was then the Portuguese colony of Angola. Benfica do Lubango is the No. 37 branch of the traditional Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon .

In the course of anti-colonial efforts in the country, after Angola's independence from Portugal in 1975, the club was renamed Clube Desportivo da Chela . After the 1989 season , the club returned to its original name.

Benfica do Lubango has not yet won any national titles. He is a regular participant in the top Angolan league, the professional league Girabola , interrupted by occasional relegations and subsequent relegations from the second division, the Gira Angola . In 2006, the club reached fourth place in Girabola as a climber, and ended the 2008 season in 14th and last place at the time, which meant another relegation. After a rise in 2009 and subsequent relegation in 2010, the club again reached the top division of Angola in 2013. The next season, however, he finished in 15th and penultimate place, so that he was relegated back to the second division.
