The sports hall at Tor II is a sports hall in the city of Premnitz . She was training and competition venue of competitive sports in the city and the venue of games of the GDR's handball league and international matches. The hall is used by TSV Chemie Premnitz (until 1990 BSG Chemie Premnitz).
history
The handball department of the BSG Chemie Premnitz repeatedly played first class in the GDR . In 1949/1950 and 1950/51 the final round of the indoor handball championship of the GDR was reached. In 1960, after a few years in the second division, he was promoted to the indoor handball league for the first time. Since the existing infrastructure did not offer ideal conditions, a decision was made as early as the 1950s to build a new hall suitable for competitive sports with a playing area with international dimensions.
The construction, which cost around 1,300,000 marks , was financed by 300,000 marks from state funds and around 1,000,000 marks from funds from the Premnitz man-made fiber factory , the sponsoring company of BSG Chemie. The construction was completed by 1962. It was the first sports hall of its kind in what was then the Potsdam district . It is structurally connected to the Premnitzer Kulturhaus via an intermediate building. It was opened with a handball tournament. A sculpture was installed on the outside wall at the entrance of the hall and in 1963 that was before the porch sculpture seven meters from bronze by the artist Karl Mertens set up.
As a result, the BSG Chemie Premnitz carried out their first and second division games in the hall. Other events were, for example, various district championships, international gymnastics matches, international volleyball matches and indoor soccer, tennis and athletics tournaments. In 1972 and 1976 the respective final tournaments in the DHV Women 's Cup , the cup competition for the league teams, took place in the sports hall at Gate II. The 1976 semi-finals took place on December 13th, the final between SC Magdeburg and SC Leipzig on December 14th. Magdeburg won 18:13. On April 4, 1980, the GDR national team played in the Premnitz sports hall at Gate II against Japan . The GDR won the game 26:14.
In addition to the BSG and TSV Chemie, other sports clubs in the area and Premnitz schools use the hall.
