The ice pond in the south of the festival city of Wunsiedel in the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge (Northern Bavaria), also known as the sports pond , is a 0.8 hectare , artificially created reservoir. It is fed on the Mühlgraben in the northwest, a left derivative of the Röslau River , the drainage leads to the river on the southeast side. In the middle of the pond there is a small island with water fountains. The pond is also used for fish farming and is fished annually in October.
tourism
The pond was created in 1910 by the Wunsiedel ice sports club for the tourism emerging in the Fichtel Mountains . It is used by locals and holidaymakers for recreation, in summer for boating, in winter for ice skating and ice bowling. A circular path leads around the pond . To the west of the facility there is an adventure playground, tennis courts, outdoor pool and natural sauna. The main hiking trail of the Fichtelgebirgsverein Höhenweg , Röslauweg and Jean-Paul-Weg leads past the ice pond .
