The Jean-Paul-Weg is a marked and signposted hiking trail in honor of the poet Jean Paul Friedrich Richter (1763–1825). The hiking trail in the administrative region of Upper Franconia was opened on May 4, 2002 with the section between Joditz and Hof . On November 15th, the route to Schwarzenbach / Saale was added and on October 17th, 2009 the route to Wunsiedel was inaugurated. Bayreuth was reached on March 21, 2010 . The hiking trail leads through the landscapes and places that shaped Jean Paul's life and meant a lot to him. Along the way, hikers are accompanied by panels with short excerpts from the poet's works and thoughts. The hiking trail touches the Franconian Forest, Fichtel Mountains and Franconian Switzerland nature parks. The path was continued to Sanspareil in 2012 and is 200 km long. It is a joint project of the districts of Hof, Wunsiedel, Bayreuth, the Fichtelgebirgsverein and all the communities and cities along the way. The most important sponsors are the tourism organizations, the district of Upper Franconia, the Upper Franconian Foundation, the Bavarian Culture Fund, the European Union and the Nürnberger Versicherung .
