Language Center of the Technical University of Łódź (Polish Centrum Językowe Politechniki Łódzkiej ) - facility of the Technical University of Łódź .

history

The Language Center was founded in 1951 as a course in applied foreign language teaching at the Technical University of Łódź ( Studium Praktycznej Nauki Języków Obcych ). The rectors' ordinance of the TUL of January 1, 2013 gave the institute its new name: Language Center of the Technical University of Łódź.

Since 2005 the language center has been housed in the former factory building at Aleja Politechniki 12 in Łódź. With funds from the European Regional Development Fund, the building was modernized and equipped between 2004 and 2006. The center has 28 classrooms, a conference room and a library.

Students from the TUL Third Age University are also at home in the building of the language center.

Currently (data from 2013), 72 university lecturers and 15 other employees in the fields of technology, administration and economics are employed in the TUL language center.

The language center offers 6 foreign languages: English, German, Russian, Italian, French, Spanish, but also Polish courses for foreigners.

In 2013 the number of course participants was around 6273 [including full-time (5658) and distance students (1189), as well as all evening course participants (68)]. English courses make up 89% of all courses.

The language center provides course tuition for students of the Bachelor's and Master’s degree courses as well as for doctoral students, for participants in the Socrates-Erasmus and IAESTE programs, for students of the general education lyceum of the TUL, for the audience of the university of the third age of the TUL, for student exchange Participants with Cangzhou Vocational College of Technology (China) and for foreigners who apply for a place at the TUL (Polish summer courses).

The center takes part in the “Młodzi w Łodzi - Językowzięci” project, which has been implemented by the Łódź City Office since September 24, 2012. As part of this project, language courses in Finnish, Danish and Swedish are held at the center.

The university lecturers employed at the center also give language courses in the International Education Center (IFE) of the TUL.

The center is also the examination center for international exams TELC , LCCI and BULATS . The center works with the TUL's Office for the Disabled, with the student organization BEST and with the publisher The Teacher .

Events

  • Organization of the 22nd International Conference of English Teachers IATEFL Poland (September 27-29, 2013) with 780 participants.
  • Organization and coordination of the first “Study Visit” at TUL (June 5-9, 2013). 13 administrative representatives from TUL's partner universities took part. The aim was to spread the internationalization of universities.
