Board of European Students of Technology (BEST) is an international , non- political, non-profit organization that is only organized by students. The main objective is to give students with technical courses in Europe an international orientation.

The organization consists of 96 groups, which are represented in 34 countries in Europe with more than 3000 members.

activities

The main activities of BEST are the organization and promotion of public-international and local events. In addition to one to two-week academic and leisure courses for international participants, some BEST groups also organize company contact fairs or company presentations at their university. Participation in academic BEST courses costs a maximum of 50 euros, which includes board and lodging.

Every year one counts:

  • more than 100 events (mostly courses) throughout the year, especially in summer
  • three symposia on education
  • a general assembly and an assembly of all local presidents
  • numerous internal meetings (trainings, regional assemblies, cultural exchanges, internal working meetings)

A distinction is also made between external, internal and local events. External events are also open to non-members, as long as you are enrolled in a university, a Local BEST Group (LBG) has

Typical external events are:

  • BEST courses
  • EBEC ( European BEST Engineering Competition)
  • BEST Career Center / BEST Career Day
  • BEST Symposium of Education

history

The first idea came up in 1987 during a European conference for students of mathematics and physics in Stockholm ( Sweden ). It was decided to hold an international week twice a year. This should take place in a different country each time in order to further develop the interaction between the students.

The second international week took place in Grenoble ( France ) in March 1988. Not only students of mathematics or physics came to this meeting, but also from other disciplines. The next event was held in Eindhoven ( Netherlands ). The first meeting specially organized for BEST took place in Berlin ( Germany ) in April 1989. The basic structure was decided there. The association should consist of a board of directors, a general assembly and members. The delegates who attended came from all over Europe .

During the meeting in Budapest in November 1990, the summer program emerged as a group of courses, each lasting two weeks, and taking place across Europe . So in the summer of 1991 there were the first 13 summer courses. In the first three years they were supported by the EU program TEMPUS .

The organization has grown steadily as new local groups have joined and new projects have been developed. During the XIV General Assembly it was decided to apply for the thematic network H3E in the SOCRATES program of the European Union in cooperation with CESAER and SEFI . This network, officially established in 1996, was intended to address the future of education in engineering and became the first thematic network in which students can participate as equal partners.

To the XV. At the general assembly in Belgium , the association has started a close partnership with the German organization bonding student initiative. Each association should recognize the activities of the others in order to start working. BEST has been working with the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students ( CFES ) since 2002 .
