The bonding-studenteninitiative eV (or bonding for short ) is a non-profit association that aims to give students an insight into their later professional life and to establish contact between companies and students during their studies. For this purpose, various events such as excursions, specialist lectures and company contact fairs are organized, which are basically free of charge for all students. Members of the association are exclusively students . The association is represented by the association's board, which is elected for one year. There are university groups of the bonding student initiative at twelve locations across Germany.

history

On February 10, 1988 bonding was founded at the RWTH in Aachen. On November 25th of the same year the first bonding company contact fair took place. This was followed by the establishment of further university locations all over Germany, the support group and the alumni organization bonding-alumni. In 2017, the Erlangen location was renamed the Erlangen-Nuremberg location and expanded. The Jobwall.de platform was launched in 2019 to offer the bonding target group the opportunity to use an online career platform.

Events

The purpose of the bonding student initiative is to organize various lectures, excursions and theme days to make it easier for students to get in touch with companies. The events are divided into different categories. In addition to events, other projects are implemented, such as the semi-annual semester planner.

Company contact fair

The bonding company contact fair is one of the largest company contact fairs in Germany . Each university location organizes a company contact fair every year. The company contact fair is aimed primarily at natural scientists, MINT courses and (business) engineers. Around 20,000 students were expected at the Aachen location in 2017 (around 15,000 in 2010). Since the company contact fair has been held for 30 years, it is one of the oldest German trade fairs.

Theme days

Various theme days are organized for different subject areas, such as the AutomotiveDay, the IndustryNight or the CareerNight. Theme days are smaller events in which a smaller number of companies take part.

Soft skill training

The members of the bonding student initiative are regularly trained in various training courses. Soft skills training is often offered in the program called conmoto. Bonding offers external students the opportunity to attend seminars and trainings on various topics.

Excursions

Excursions are organized in cooperation with companies. Trips to industrial fairs such as CeBit or the IAA are offered. In addition, excursions often lead to the company's plants.

Controversy

As the organizer of company contact fairs with approval of the armaments industry, the bonding student initiative is criticized by other students (organizations). In April 2015, the AStA of the Technical University of Berlin published an article about the company contact fair in Berlin. At the 2013 fair in Dresden there were protests by students against the armaments industry.
