The Sprendlinger Turngemeinde 1848 e. V. is a multi-discipline club founded in 1848 with sporting and musical offers. The association consists of eleven departments. The seat of the association is in Dreieich ( Hessen ). The Sprendlinger Turngemeinde is the oldest sports club in Dreieich.

history

Founded in 1848, the Sprendlinger Turngemeinde grew almost continuously in size and importance through several difficult time stages and today presents itself with a wide range of sporting and musical activities. While gymnastics was in the foreground of the club's interests at the time the club was founded, a singing department was founded in 1890.

In 1905, the association acquired its current premises in Taunusstrasse, which was later renamed Rhönstrasse as part of a regional reform. At the beginning, the club members used the acquired area as a gymnasium, until the construction work on an emergency gymnasium began in 1920. In 1927 the club house was built, which still serves as the club headquarters and houses the club restaurant.

During the Second World War in 1944 the gym was damaged by incendiary bombs. The hall was rebuilt piece by piece and reopened in 1950 as part of a two-day festival, including an extension. At that time the club already had a football, handball, swimming and table tennis department, which expanded the range of gymnastics and singing.

In 1958, extensive renovation and expansion of the club gym followed. The association was the organizer of the Gau-Turntag and the 1st song day of the Hessian gymnastics singers. In addition, the 50th anniversary of women's gymnastics was celebrated. Four years later it was renovated and rebuilt again, and the STG singing department and the Teutonia Sprendlingen choir followed.

In 1969 the STG was again the host of an important sporting event: the 1st international competition for gymnastics gymnasts between the former ČSSR and the Federal Republic of Germany. The music train was founded in 1970.

While the handball department was closed in 1993 due to a lack of participants, volleyball training was started in the same year.

In 1998 extensive celebrations took place for the 150th anniversary of the association. The STG was the organizer of the spring gymnastics day of the Turngau Main-Rhein, the state cup TGW on May 9, an international tournament of rhythmic gymnastics, the German club team championships in gymnastics and the Hessen Cup gymnastics and dance of the students. In 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2017, the Sprendlinger Turngemeinde organized a gymnastics club show, which enjoyed great media and public interest. In 2012, the first plans for the renovation of the aging club building were made. The association expanded its range to include fitness-oriented martial arts programs and, after obtaining the building permit, initiated the largest redesign project since the extensive renovations in 1950.
