description

The Sprosselbrunnen is also known as the Spratzelbrunnen . The natural monument is located near the Hüttenbach Gorge near Haimendorf. Depending on the season and the weather, the spring has a discharge of several liters per second. It springs from a from clay traversed Rhät - Lias - sandstone rocks . The water outlet has formed numerous outflow tubes in the sandstone, of which the higher ones no longer carry water due to the progressive erosion of the clay layers inside the rock. After about 150 meters, the water flows into the Hüttenbach , a tributary of the Pegnitz . The spring takes its name from the crackling noises of the water coming out (Franconian dialect spratzeln for crackling).
