Spume Island (from English spume 'spray, foam' ) is a small, low and rocky island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 2.5 km southwest of Bonaparte Point off the southwest coast of Anvers Island .
A Royal Navy hydrographic unit carried out its survey between 1956 and 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after the spray that can be observed here in strong waves and appropriate winds.
