Square Rooms is a song by Al Corley from the year 1984 , he with Harold Faltermeyer wrote and Peter John Woods.

history

After two seasons of The Denver Clan as the gay son Steve Carrington and a visit to an opera, Al Corley got the idea to try his hand at singing. He wrote his first single Square Rooms with Harold Faltermeyer and Peter John Woods .

On the cover of the record, Corley imitated the stars who were depicted in the Gentlemen's Quarterly : with a corresponding hairstyle, dark look and disheveled hair. This achieved the desired effect best in France, where it gained popularity through its live appearances on television. But according to journalist Elia Habib, Corley's success was not just based on his physical appearance. In fact, the design of the song gained popularity and was conceived as a danceable Europop . Faltermeyer was previously involved in the production of the Laura Branigan version of Self Control , so there are a few similarities between the songs. A year later, Harold Faltermeyer was also successful with his composition of his instrumental Axel F.

success

Square Rooms was released worldwide on September 9, 1984, from then on it became a number one hit in France (5 weeks total from March 9-29 and April 6-19, 1985).

In Germany (13th place), Austria (15th place), Switzerland (6th place) and Italy (12th place), the song developed into a top 15 success.

In the United States, Square Rooms had moderate success: the song reached number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 , and it reached number 26 on the US dance chart.
