Stéphane Bancel (* 1972 or 1973 ) is a French entrepreneur and CEO and co-owner of the Moderna company . As of May 2020, his net worth was $ 2.1 billion.

career

Bancel was born in France and received his Masters in Engineering from École Centrale Paris and the University of Minnesota . He then obtained a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School . From 2000 to 2006 he worked in various roles for Eli Lilly , where, among other things, he was responsible for the company's business in Belgium . In 2007 he became CEO of the French diagnostics company BioMérieux . In 2011, Bancel joined Moderna and became CEO. According to reports, under his leadership, the company has developed a very secretive culture in which little information is leaked.

In April 2020, when Moderna stock price rose on the impending Phase 2 human trials for a potential COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna, Bancel's company equity was valued at around 9% to over $ 1 billion . At a meeting with US President Donald Trump , Bancel was able to secure over $ 480 million in public funds to fund the potential vaccine.
