Stéphane Bruey

Stéphane Bruey (born December 1, 1932 in Champigny , † August 31, 2005 ) was a French football player .

Club career

Stéphane Bruey, who developed into a "running and assertive striker ", began his professional career in 1950 at the age of seventeen at the capital city Racing Club , where he was not yet a regular player. When Racing was relegated to the second division in 1953 , AS Monaco secured its services, and it was there that Bruey first drew attention to himself. In the championship and cup competition , however, it was neither with the Monegas nor with one of his later clubs to win a title: a 3rd place in the league (1955/56) and a semi-final participation in the Coupe de France (1961/62, 0-1 against the AS Saint-Étienne ) were his greatest successes with his clubs.

From 1957 to 1965 he played for SCO Angers , where he was also a national player. In these following seven seasons he appeared twice in the top scorer list : 1957/58 in 7th place with 16, 1963/64 in 10th place with 14 hits. For the 1964/65 season he was loaned to Olympique Lyon , but returned to Angers after the first half of the season - only to move to Olympique Lyon for good six months later. In the summer of 1966 he ended his professional career. He died in August 2005.

At the World Cup finals in 1958 , he was part of the French squad , but was not used there. His bad luck was that he was only called when there was “a personal hole to be filled” in the center forward position.
