St-Christophe (Héricourt)
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St-Christophe belongs to a Lutheran congregation within the United Protestant Church of France in Héricourt in the Haute-Saône department ( Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region ). The church has been registered as a monument historique since 1995 .
history
The core of the Church of St-Christophe goes back to around 1200. The simple, single-nave and flat-roofed nave was extended in late Gothic forms in the 16th century to include a raised choir with a 5/8 end and two north side chapels.
After Héricourt came into the possession of the House of Württemberg , the Reformation was introduced at the church in 1562 and the congregation became Lutheran. After the French occupation of the city, the church served Lutherans and Catholics as a simultaneous church from May 1700 . The Simultaneum ended in 1887 after the town had its own Catholic church. The organ of the church was inaugurated on Palm Sunday 1923 by Albert Schweitzer .
