St-Pierre-St-Paul (Rimaucourt)
Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul is a parish church in Rimaucourt , a commune in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ( France ).
history
The church of the former priory of the Benedictine abbey of Sainte-Colombe was built from the end of the 11th to the middle of the 12th century. The church was St. Paul and St. Peter consecrated .
architecture
The basilica originally had three apses , which were torn down around 1750 (main apse) and 1830 (side apses ). In the 19th century a new apse was added to the west. At the same time, a false ceiling was installed so that the original height of the nave can no longer be seen.
Interior
The church has sculptures of St. Paul, St. Peter and St. Joseph from the 17th century. The gilded wooden main altar dates from the 19th century. Four paintings on canvas from the 17th century are also still present. They depict scenes from the New Testament . The lead glass windows were installed during the renovation in 1859.
