The baroque St. Anne's Chapel (also: Amerunger Kapelle ) stands on the border between Soratgau and Sintfeld near the towns of Lichtenau , Husen and Holtheim at the confluence of Altenau and Holtheimer Wasser near the Amerungen desert . The chapel is owned and a subsidiary church of the parish of St. Kilian zu Lichtenau . Every year on the first Sunday in August, pilgrims from the Sintfeld, the Soratgau and the entire Hochstift Paderborn come to the Amerung Chapel .

history

Because the previous church was completely in disrepair, the St. Anne's Chapel was rebuilt by Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg in 1669 . The baroque high altar was created a few years in front of the church (1664) and thus seems to have been bought second-hand. The high altar painting dates from 1749 and shows Saint Anna and Joachim with their daughter Maria. It was donated by Egon von Fürstenberg, at that time the Praepositus of the Busdorf Foundation in Paderborn. Since 1955 the picture has been replaced by a good copy. The original is in the parish church in Lichtenau. The chapel and altar are consecrated . Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg was consecrated on July 21, 1672.

The baroque portal bears a Latin inscription in a cartouche , the translation of which is: “Consecrated to God, the highest and greatest! Ferdinand, of God and of the Apostolic See Grace, Bishop of Paderborn, Coadjutor of Munster , the Holy Roman Empire Prince and Count to Pyrmont , has this new chapel reverence for the mother of the Virgin Mother of God, had collapsed as the old sanctuary of Saint Anne , built in 1669.
