St. Kilian (Lichtenau)
The parish church of St. Kilian is in Lichtenau (Westphalia) , in the Paderborn district . The defense tower of the church, which is located on a hill, is 43 meters high. The Catholic Church and Community is part of the Lichtenau Pastoral Association of the Büren-Delbrück Dean's Office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
history
Evaluations of the stonemasons' marks on the church structure have shown that construction of the church probably began in 1233. The early Gothic building itself probably dates from 1273. In 1483 the church burned down. It was then added to the choir .
In 1670, the building was repaired on the initiative of the Paderborn Prince-Bishop Ferdinand II , as it was damaged in the Thirty Years War . During these measures, the baroque south portal and the sacristy were created at the same time . In 1624 the parish received a three-story alabaster altar in Renaissance style from the family of Count von Westphalen as a grave altar. Katharina zu Löwenstein and her husband Heinrich von Westphalen were buried under the church choir.
The church bell dates from 1723. Today's bell is intended to commemorate the fire that destroyed the roof structure and the old bell in 1721. A coincidence prevented the current church bell from being melted down during World War II.
The church was extensively renovated in 1994. The church is famous for its Lichtenau Christmas crib .
organ
The organ was made in 1667 by the organ builder Albert Pöttgen from Büren . The case of the organ is still preserved in its original state. The organ itself has been rebuilt and changed several times over the years. Ten registers are still from Georg Carl Kuhlmann from 1850 . The instrument today has 19 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are mechanical. The organ was last renovated in 1997 by the Speith-Orgelbau company .
