St. Johannes Nepomuk Chapel (Rietberg)
The St. Johannes Nepomuk Chapel is a listed church building in Rietberg . The chapel is dedicated to the patron saint of the County of Rietberg, Johannes Nepomuk .
History and description
At the entrance to the castle avenue, Prince Wenzel Anton von Kaunitz-Rietberg had the chapel built by an unknown Moravian master builder around 1748 in the late Baroque style. Due to numerous similarities with the Clement Church on Salzstrasse in Münster , the building was erroneously attributed to Johann Conrad Schlaun .
The floor plan is an ellipse with convex bulges and concave swings. The magnificent Kaunitz-Rietberger coat of arms made of lead is attached above the portal .
In the interior there is an altar in white and gold , which is crowned by a figure of Nepomuk floating on clouds.
A traditional pilgrimage takes place on the Sunday after Pentecost .
