St. Matthias Church

The Protestant St. Matthias Church is a listed church building in Meiningsen , a district of the district town of Soest ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The core of the building is a pillar basilica consecrated around 1107 . It is one of the oldest churches in the Soest Börde. Around 1500 the upper storey was renewed and covered by tied roofs over the aisles. The 30 meter high tower was built in 1809 by Franz Nick on an old foundation. The previous tower was probably higher; its exact appearance is not known. The choir has been partially renewed, the aisle has been demolished. The aisle was reconstructed as part of the renovation in 1982. The original flat ceiling in the interior was replaced by wooden false vaults around 1500 . On the east wall remains of tendril paintings from the 14th century have been preserved. The choir windows from 1901 come from Ferdinand Müller's glass workshop.

Furnishing

  • The Altarmensa was consecrated in 1178.
