history
The town of Bergen was first mentioned in a document in 924.
Until the 14th century there was no church in the place. At that time, Bergen belonged to the parish of Vachendorf , the closest church was the St. Jabobus branch church in Bernhaupten . The first church in Bergen was built towards the end of the 14th century. It was inaugurated on April 19, 1513 as the back of the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Vachendorf. On September 1, 1863, the foundation stone for the new church was laid. It is a late classicist design. The construction was finished in 1866 under the master builder Franz Schegg. The consecration took place on September 14, 1866 Archbishop Gregor von Scherr . In 1869 the church tower was raised to 59.15 meters and adapted to the new church. In addition to the three bells that had existed since 1846, two more were added in 1872.
Art in the parish church
The font made from Tegernsee marble dates from 1866. The interior was designed by the Traunstein history painter Max Fürst . In 1908 the old high altar was replaced by the stone relief that has been preserved until now. The two side altars date from 1915 and were created by the Munich history painter Ludwig Schnitzenbaumer. In the chancel, the statues of Mater dolorosa and de Ece homo still come from the old church furnishings. During the last extensive renovation (1976–1978), the architect Vinzenz Dufter from Siegsdorf restored the original unity of classicist architecture and Nazarene painting.
