St. Andreas (Oberuttlau)

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Andreas is a Gothic brick church in the Oberuttlau district of Haarbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . It belongs to the parish of Haarbach in the deanery Pocking of the Diocese of Passau .

History and architecture

Uttlau was the in 1437 Prämonstratenser - Monastery of St. Salvator Griesbach incorporated that the vicars presented. The parish has been independent since 1806 and has been part of the Haarbach Parish Association since 1977.

The church in Oberuttlau is a small late Gothic hall church in brick masonry using quarry stone, which is partially plastered. The choir has only moved in very slightly. A tower with a gable roof is built on the south side. The entire structure is provided with buttresses .

The four-bay ship is vaulted in four bays with a net vault with irregular pentagonal diamonds similar to the Grongörgen pilgrimage church . The ribs are intercepted by semicircular services that are placed on the flat shield arch positions . The two-bay choir ends in a three-sided conclusion. A net vault in a bent row with small round keystones at the top of the vault completes the choir. The ribs grow out of semicircular wall service pieces with profiled consoles.

Painting and equipment

A remarkable painting from the time immediately after the church was completed has been preserved, albeit heavily renovated. The dates on the altar side of the choir arch 1476 and on the west wall 1487 give clues for the dating. The choir vault shows decorative representations of tendrils and birds, including the pelican as a symbol for the sacrificial death of Christ. The handkerchief of Christ is depicted on the choir arch , the Man of Sorrows above the apex window , and the coat of arms. On the western side of the choir arch, Christ is depicted as Salvator mundi between the kneeling Cain and Abel . Above the door to the sacristy there is a painted crack , as well as a half-length figure of the church patron.

On the vaulted areas of the nave, male and female saints are depicted on indicated consoles, including St. George on the defeated dragon and heraldic shields, two of which are held by wild men . One of the largest diamonds is to be found with a representation of Our Lady with a kneeling donor.

The rest of the furnishings are neo-Gothic and date from 1875. Valuable older carved figures can be found on the high altar, including St. Andrew as a slender figure in a moving cloak, dating from around 1520/1530. At about the same time, the figure of St. Florian was created in a splendid, fashionable Renaissance costume. A group of carved figures of the baptism of Jesus Christ on the cover of the baptismal font is a fine work of the late Rococo .
