The St. Anne's Diocesan College , shortly St. Anne's is a private Anglican education establishment with boarding for girls in Hilton in Pietermaritzburg in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It was founded in 1877 as a girls' school. At first the college was located directly in Pietermaritzburg, in 1903 a piece of land in Hilton was acquired and built on. In 1977 a foundation was established to take care of scholarships .
Organization and courses
St. Anne's is by a rector ( college head directed), he is assisted by two deputy principals, including the principal deputy and the deputy for Academic Affairs, a chaplain , a counselor and other staff. The management is responsible to a board of directors to which the Bishop of Natal ( Lord Bishop ) belongs as an observer.
St. Anne's offers holistic education and training. Until the end of compulsory schooling with the 9th grade , the pupils are taught basic subjects such as English , Afrikaans or history . In addition, there are electives such as isiZulu , drama or life orientation. The high school education, which ends with the National Senior Certificate , teaches seven subjects, including two languages. In 2010, 100% of the students graduated.
The college offers the students living in six houses, which are named after former heads of the boarding school. The pupils do not have to belong to a Christian church, but identify with the Christian faith .
