The Roman Catholic Church of St. Anthony is located in Gefäll , a district of in Lower Franconia nearby town Burkardroth and the hl. Consecrated to Anthony of Padua .

The church is one of the architectural monuments of Burkardroth and is registered under the number D-6-72-117-22 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

Construction of the church began in 1853 and was completed in 1862.

In 1862 the Parisian Victoire-Félicie Bailliot donated the church seating to Countess von Béhague when she visited the church during her stay at Aschach Castle . Originally the church had 150 seats; today there are 340.

Today's high altar, which contains a crucifixion group, St. Anthony of Padua and St. Francis of Assisi was built in 1909 by the Würzburg sculptor Heinz Schiestl and replaces a previous work. Schiestl probably also made the two side altars of the church.

Since 1966 the church has had a uniform ringing of three bells with the tones b´, des´´ and es´´ (Te Deum motif). The previous bell did not go well together musically.

In 1977/1978 the church was expanded by two aisles under the supervision of the Schweinfurt architect Matl , whereby strict attention was paid to preserving the existing character of the church building.

On October 12, 1998, lightning struck the church tower, tearing the tower cross away and damaging the electronic control of the bell and tower clock.

In 2013, renovation work was decided to repair damage caused by weather and woodworms and to redesign and add to the furnishings of the church. The start of the renovation work is scheduled for 2015. The first donations have already been collected for the renovation of the church.
