The construction

After a Catholic school had already been located in an old Wehrmacht barracks on the Dickenberg from August 17, 1948, the first efforts to build a Catholic church were made a short time later. A building committee was formed in this barrack on January 15, 1950, which inspected the site of the planned site on January 19, 1950. On July 18, 1950, in the presence of Rector Pricking, the property was cleared to make room for the church. The foundation stone of the church was laid on December 3, 1950, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on July 19, 1951. The planning architect was EM Kleffner from Münster.

The church was on 2 December 1951 Vicar General John Pohlschneider benediziert .

The 19 meter high church tower was completed in 1954. The sacristy is located in the basement . A tower clock was later to be installed in a niche in the tower . Since this project was never put into practice, the niche was later walled up.

On September 26 and 27, 1959, Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Baaken was a guest on the Dickenberg to undertake the consecration .

Merger

In 2005 the parishes of St. Barbara, St. Marien (Uffeln) and St. Michael (Bockraden) merged to form the new parish of Francis. On October 2nd, 2011, the parish Herz-Jesu (Püsselbüren) joined the parish community.

A stainless steel cross has adorned the tower since 2004. In 2013, the statue of Barbara in front of the church was vandalized.

In September 2018, the interior painting of the church was renewed after 30 years.
