St. Bartholomäi in Droyßig

The Evangelical Church of St. Bartholomäi is located in Droyßig in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a listed building and is registered with the registration number 094 86634 in the state's monument register. The building stands on the site of a former church, which stood here before it was handed over to the Order of the Holy Sepulcher, which was founded in that year, in 1215. Between the years 1493 and 1517, the temple courtyard was transferred to the Order of St. John.

description

building

The two eastern choir bays with cross-ribbed vaults on circular services and straight east end bear witness to a new construction of the church in the third quarter of the 13th century. On the south side of the east yoke there is a sedile niche with three cloverleaf arched arcades on columns. Somewhat younger, but still from the 14th century, the mighty tower over the west adjoining yoke, which is vaulted on consoles, comes from. The slated tower top with a high obelisk attachment dates from the end of the 18th century. The eastern part of the nave was built between 1648 and 1652 and extended between 1859 and 1860. A Romanesque portal on the north side of the nave is probably the remainder of an older parish church that was given to the order house in 1215.

inner space

The interior of the hall is determined by a flat ceiling on profiled beams from the years 1648 to 1652 and a baroque horseshoe gallery, which is two-story on the north side. Both were extended to the west during the renovation in 1860. A mansion gallery, restored in 1949, is located on the north side of the tower yoke.

Furnishing

The carved altar from around 1510 to 1520 was probably built by Franz Geringswalde from Altenburg. In the shrine of the altar, Mary and the child can be seen between Saints Barbara and Katharina. On the wings there are four saints in two rows one above the other. The lamentation and the coats of arms of the von Bünau family and the Order of St. John are painted on the predella . The outside of the wing is decorated with paintings of Saints Jerome and Rochus , the inactive wings with Saints Laurentius and Stephanus . On the shrine there are carved figures of the titular Saint Bartholomew and of John the Baptist. Between the two is a crucifix that does not belong to it. The pulpit dates from around 1610. Painted representations of the four evangelists can be seen on its basket. The sandstone baptism, executed in a chalice shape and provided with six angel flights on the sides, is dated to the year 1621 with an inscription.

Tombs and Epitaphs

In the choir of the church there are several large wall tombs of the von Hoym family , all of high quality and made of stucco marble and alabaster. On the north wall is the tomb with the portrait busts of Ludwig Gebhard von Hoym (1678–1738), who died in 1738, and his son Georg Ludwig. The tombs were erected on the south wall in the form of an obelisk over a tumba . One shows the portrait medallion held by angels of Marianne Christine von Hoym, who died in 1743. The other tomb, also provided with a portrait medallion, was erected in early Classicist form by Friedrich Samuel Schlegel, based on a design by Adam Friedrich Oeser in 1771 for Julius Gebhard von Hoym, who died in 1769 . On the east wall is the tomb for Katharina Sophia von Hoym, who died in 1681. It shows the figure of death and angels. Also on the east wall is a tomb with a portrait bust for Ludwig Gebhard, who died in 1711. The gravestone of Günter von Bünau, who died in 1431, is remarkable. The deceased in armor is shown in high relief, standing on a lion. In his hands he holds a coat of arms and a marshal's baton. There is also the knight's grave of Heinrich von Bünau, who died in 1556, by the church. In the community hall there is an epitaph painting for Rudolf von Bünau, who died in 1552. It shows the deceased adoring a crucifix in the landscape and the Bünau coat of arms.
