The late Romanesque church, built in the style of the Cistercians without a belfry , was built in the second quarter of the 13th century on the southern edge of the village. She was surrounded by a cemetery and the Premonstratensian Mulhouse associated provost of Toužim ( Toužim assumed). After Pröles was elevated to a parish in the 14th century, the church building was rebuilt in the Gothic style and the St. Vitus Church in neighboring Útvina ( Uitwa ) was assigned as a subsidiary church. The first written mention of St. Bartholomew's Church comes from September 17, 1354, when Provost Nicolaus from Theusing was replaced by Pastor Henricus. With the growing importance of the village of Ùtvina, St. Bartholomew lost the status of a parish church to the local St. Vitus Church in the 16th century and was downgraded to its subsidiary church.

In the 18th century, the owners of the Theusing estate made structural changes in the Baroque style. The Romanesque entrance portal was enlarged and the outer walls breached for larger windows. A prayer room ( oratory ) was set up on the floor above the sacristy , which was reached by a newly laid out external staircase and contained glazed windows to the presbytery . The church's furnishings were also renewed . Pilasters were placed in the newly rounded corners of the wall .

According to the entries in the church book for the years 1778 to 1806, the organ builder Franz Garttner from Tachau received 35 guilders in 1781 for a new organ, the carpenter Johann Pachenberger from Toužim 28 guilders for sacristy furniture and the master locksmith Melchior Bittermann 31 guilders and 18 groschen for fittings and decorations the sacristy furniture and the church doors. In 1782 the organ builder Vincent Garttner from Tachau received 4 guilders for tuning the organ. In 1828 a new organ was purchased for 637 guilders, which was repaired in 1897 by the organ builder Christof Müller from Auschowitz ( Úšovice ). Further repairs were carried out in 1913 and 1929 by the organ builder Wilhelm Schusser from Tepl .

After the Second World War in 1945, the resident German population was expelled . The church was no longer used and fell into disrepair. The interior was destroyed or stolen. On May 3, 1958, the church was registered in the national list of cultural monuments (22508 / 4-1017). In the 1970s, the church's shingle roof was restored. From 2012 to 2013, the owner, the Roman Catholic parish of Toužim, renovated the roof and the truss.
