St. Bonifatius is the parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Bonifatius in the Stadtheide district ( Paderborn ).

The parish of St. Bonifatius, together with St. Heinrich and St. Stephanus, forms the Paderborn North-East Pastoral Association , in the Paderborn deanery of the archbishopric of the same name .

history

In 1919, a pastoral care center for the cathedral parish was established in the Stadtheide in the north of Paderborn , for which there was initially only a wooden church. The community at that time comprised 1,200 Catholics. In 1928 it was decided to build a massive church, which was planned by diocesan master builder Kurt Matern .

On April 21, 1930, the then parish vicar Köhne laid the foundation stone for the church building. The completed building was consecrated on November 2, 1930 by Bishop Caspar Klein .

In 1938 the Vicarie was raised to an independent parish. Pastor was the parish vicar Wilhelm Köhne. He was followed in 1964 by Pastor Wilmes.

After the Second World War , the church building was badly damaged and required repairs. Because the number of parishioners had also risen sharply, it was decided to build a new building. The Cologne architect Hans Schilling was commissioned with the planning . This church was consecrated on June 6, 1981 by Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt .

From December 1985 to June 2007 Pastor Erwin Hampel worked in the community.

After the church itself and the St. Bonifatius kindergarten were built, a parish hall was built, the construction of which was completed in 1988.

In 2004 the congregation became part of the Paderborn North-East Pastoral Association. Pastor in St. Boniface and leader of the pastoral network has been Pastor Thomas Stolz since 2007.

Since January 1, 2013, the parish of St. Stephanus , which was dissolved on this date, has belonged to St. Bonifatius.

On November 29, 2015, the Paderborn North-East Pastoral Association, to which St. Bonifatius belongs, was merged with the Paderborn West Pastoral Association to form the Paderborn North-East-West Pastoral Association.

architecture

The church building is a brick building on an irregular, polygonal floor plan. The tower, the four storeys of which taper gradually towards the top, is remarkable. Four bronze bells are hung in the tower, tuned to e ', g', a 'and h'.

use

The church building is used for church services. The adjacent two-storey parish hall is used by the groups of the community, such as the church council, the parish council, the Catholic women's community , the Catholic workers' movement , the church choir, senior citizens, the Caritas conference and the “Bonijugend”.
