St. Boniface Church

The Catholic Church of St. Bonifatius , formerly the Church of the Faith , is located in the northern Bergeborbeck district of Essen on Bottroper Straße in an industrial area and belongs to the Society of St. Pius X.

history

The former Protestant "Belief Church" (built in 1939/40, destroyed at the end of the war and rebuilt in 1952) was bought and rebuilt in June 1981 by the Society of St. Pius X.

The consecration of the church took place in 1981 (October 25, Christ the King ), at the same time opened the Fraternity of St. Pius X in Essen, the third Priory in Germany (Munich, Saarbrücken - and the seminary in Zaitzkofen ).

Equipment of today's church

The center of the church has been the high altar made of Anröchter dolomite with the altarpiece by Gottfried Gerstl (in the so-called Munich style, 1982); the altar of the side aisle is decorated with a Habsburg Madonna (around 1800). In 1983 the four new bells (Edelbrock, Gescher) were ceremoniously consecrated by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre .

Bright leaded glass windows with portrait medallions of Saints Boniface , Peter , Paul and Pius X. (Derix, Kevelaer ) have been replacing the old windows (with depictions of mine workers) since 1986 and give the church interior a light, festive character. In addition to the pulpit and the baptismal font (both newly designed), the organ (11 registers), which was rebuilt and expanded by two registers, was taken over.
