St. Cornelius and Cyprian is a Roman Catholic parish church in Heilbronn - Biberach (Heilbronn) in Baden-Württemberg . It was consecrated in 1985 instead of a previous structure.

history

For the construction of the first Catholic church in Biberach, all of Württemberg was collected. The Rottenburg diocese also subsidized the planned construction costs in the amount of around 13,000 guilders with a severance payment of 4,000 guilders. The Catholic community acquired close to the date as an interdenominational church used evangelical church a farm and demolished them to win land.

The Württemberg court master builder Christian Leins , who planned a neo-Gothic building, was won over as the architect . The foundation stone was laid on June 1, 1862. In order to save construction costs, a stable foundation was avoided and the walls were built as thin as possible. As a result, the first construction defects became apparent during the erection of the roof and the statics of the building had to be reinforced with iron bars. The entire construction time was 16 months, the finished church was consecrated on October 11, 1863, like the Protestant church, to Saints Cornelius and Cyprian . For the 100th anniversary, the building received a new glass window in 1963, but the poor condition of the building made demolition soon inevitable. The last service in the old building took place on April 1, 1984, after which the old church was demolished.

In their place a more modern and larger church followed, which in turn is consecrated to Cornelius and Cyprian. The church was consecrated on December 1, 1985. The church and the neighboring community center won first prize in the 7th Heilbronn facade competition. In 1997 a new two-manual organ with 14 registers was purchased.

Very few historical art treasures have been preserved in the new church, the house of God is more in the spirit of modernity, both in its architecture and in the design of the furnishings such as the altar, baptismal font, lectern and colored glass window on the baptismal font.
