St. Erasmus (Forest on the Alz)
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Erasmus is a former castle chapel in Wald an der Alz in the Altötting district in Upper Bavaria . It belongs to the parish association Feichten in the Diocese of Passau and is subordinate to the patronage of Erasmus of Antioch .
History and architecture
On May 9, 1333, Duke Otto IV donated the Schoenstatt Manor as a piece of equipment for the “St. Erasmus Chapel on his Veste zu Walld”. The chapel was rebuilt between 1479 and 1484 as a single-nave wall pillar church and was consecrated on May 17, 1484 by Georg II. Altdorfer, auxiliary bishop of Chiemsee . In 1680/1681 the ridge turrets and the nave were completely destroyed by the collapse of the larger castle tower . With the subsequent new building, the three-bay, groin-vaulted room and the pilaster-structured octagon of the tower with the onion helmet were created . The five-bay extension, which is located north of the eastern bay of the church at a right angle, was probably also built. According to other sources, the extension was only built around 1838. The gallery in the east nave is connected to the castle by a corridor .
