The parish church of St. Gallus is the Catholic village church of Birkenhördt (Southern Wine Route district).

history

It was built in 1861 according to plans by the architect Ludwig Hagemann on a small hill in the center of the village. In the neo-Gothic style, he created a stately, partly plastered sacred building made of red sandstone .

Furnishing

In the interior of the church, the vaulted ceiling depicts the ladder to heaven flanked by the twelve apostles . The painting Christ on the Mount of Olives by the Würzburg court painter Anton Clemens Lünenschloß , which previously served as an altarpiece , is significant in terms of art history . The organ was built in 1898 by the Württemberg organ building company Weigle and has 16 stops on 2 manuals and a pedal, which are made to sound pneumatically.
