St. Gallus Chapel in Borchen-Kirchborchen

St. Gallus is a Catholic processional chapel in the Borchen district of Kirchborchen in the Paderborn district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Already between 1015 and 1031 Bishop Meinwerk had a wooden church built in Südborchen, which he placed under the Abdinghof monastery . Shortly afterwards, Abbot Wolfgang of the monastery was able to build the first stone church, which was consecrated to St. Gall by Bishop Rotho in 1043 .

After the new St. Michaels Church was built around 1200 , the St. Gallus Church fell into disrepair. At the beginning of the 15th century only remains of the wall were left. In 1636 a great plague struck the place. When this was over, the citizens of Kirchborchen vowed to hold a procession every year on June 15, the day of St. Vitus , which ended at the Gallikapelle. From 1663 onwards the reconstruction of the chapel began.

The building was renovated around 1750. The building was not maintained and only served as a processional station. It was not until the beginning of the 21st century that the chapel was renovated again with the help of the local rifle club.
