The Church of St. Georg is a Roman Catholic parish church of the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising in Taufkirchen near Munich . It is located in Am Wald and bears the patronage of St. George .

history

Due to the large population growth, the completely new residential area Am Wald was developed in the 1960s. At the same time, the first considerations for a pastoral center on site began, also because the old baroque parish church of St. John the Baptist only offered limited space for the rapidly growing community. In 1970 a makeshift church was set up as the vicarie of St. Johannes on Pappelstrasse and four years later on July 21, 1974 the foundation stone of today's parish church was laid. The consecration of the new church took place on October 19, 1975 by Julius Cardinal Döpfner .

Building description

The inconspicuous three-story building can hardly be recognized from the outside as a church. In addition to the church, there are also numerous community rooms and a chapel in the building. There is no church tower or bell. The black facade is broken up by simple windows with yellow window frames. A sweeping concrete staircase leads to the side main entrance of the church. The church interior has a square floor plan and, due to the eccentric position of the circular altar island, is oriented towards the northeast corner. In the opposite corner is the organ and a podium for the choir. The walls are clad with wood and concrete struts run through the entire room under the ceiling. The room is illuminated by four skylights. There is also a low ribbon of windows in two of the corners.
