Eduard Rudolf Petrák (born November 22, 1855 in Horní Branné , † September 27, 1931 in Prague ) was a teacher and founder of the Austrian Giant Mountains Association.

Live and act

Eduard Rudolf Petrák worked as a teacher in Krausebauden and Marschendorf ( Špindlerův Mlýn / Spindleruv Mlyn) in the years 1878–1886 and founded the Giant Mountains Association in 1880, of which he was the first manager. He also founded the magazine “Das Riesengebirge in Word and Image”, which he first published in 1880/81. Petrák researched the mining industry on the upper Elbe , i.e. around Spindelmühle and St. Peter, for which he had access to the entire source material from the mining authorities in Hohenelbe . In addition, he worked out the first basic road maps of the Giant Mountains based on colored trail markings and in 1888 edited the first fully-fledged "Guide to the Giant Mountains". This travel guide offers a local history in a nutshell . Petrák thus became one of the first promoters of tourism and winter sports in the area.

In 1896 Petrák left the Giant Mountains and moved to Prague ( Royal Vineyards ), where he was director of youth education until 1924.
