Joseph Karl von Grebner (born December 19, 1797 in Kupferzell , Baden-Württemberg , † 1838 in Ulm ) was a German veterinarian.

Life

Joseph von Grebner first devoted himself to military service and, as a first lieutenant, took part in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814 in Germany and France in the final phase of the Napoleonic Wars . After the peace agreement, he turned to veterinary medicine . He studied this subject at the universities of Vienna and Berlin from 1817 to 1819 and after completing his studies received the position of senior veterinarian in Berlin. After the death of Professor Karl Asmund Rudolphi (1832) he was appointed regimental veterinarian.

Shortly before that, Grebner had published a prescription paperback for veterinarians (Ulm 1831). However, it does not seem to have attracted much attention at the beginning, because soon after the author's death in 1838 it had to be given a new title page in order to meet with greater interest as a new edition. However, the desired success was only achieved with the third edition enlarged and improved by the well-known veterinarian A. Straub in Stuttgart , the one entitled Veterinary Recipe Book; a collection of the latest and greatest veterinary prescription formulas; for use by cavalry officers, economists and prospective veterinarians (Ulm 1853).
