Hergensweiler ( westallgäuerisch Hergenschwilar ) is a municipality and a town in the Swabian district of Lindau (Bodensee) .

The municipality is located in the Allgäu or Westallgäu region . Hergensweiler is the narrowest municipality in Bavaria, only two kilometers wide.

history
Until the church is planted
Like some neighboring communities, Hergensweiler was founded around the year 800 . The first stone church building was consecrated by Bishop Gebhard III of Constance . on October 5, 1108.
The place was an office of the imperial city of Lindau and was in Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 the Prince of Bretzenheim awarded as part of the newly formed Principality of Lindau. They exchanged it for Austria in 1804 , which it had to cede to Bavaria in 1805. Ecclesiastically, the village belonged to Weingarten Monastery until it was secularized .

mayor
Wolfgang Strohmaier has been mayor since May 2014 (community list), he was elected in March 2014 with 74.9% of the vote.
In January 2011, Hergensweiler experienced a "government crisis" that had been smoldering for several months. The majority of the municipal councilors called on Strohmaier's predecessor, Betz, to resign, but Betz publicly declined on the advice of the district office.

- Hergensweiler Festival (every year on the first weekend in August); originates from the brotherhood festival that has been celebrated in Hergensweiler for centuries (first evidence of this in 1712). This rosary brotherhood still exists today.

Economy including agriculture and forestry
The largest employer in the municipality is the packaging manufacturer Rose Plastic AG with around 400 employees .
In 1998, according to official statistics, there were 16 employees in the field of agriculture and forestry, 310 in the manufacturing sector and 19 in the field of trade and transport. In other economic sectors 37 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were 517 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were none in the manufacturing sector and three in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 40 farms with an agricultural area of 640 ha, of which 629 ha were permanent green space.
education
In 1999 the following institutions existed:
- Kindergartens: 50 kindergarten places with 49 children and an association in the "Network for Children" with childcare from three to six years with 15 children (parents' initiative)
